Post 5: Logical Argument

Jones writes "Deductive reasoning (see Figure 3) starts from a premise that is a generalization about a large class of ideas, people, etc. and moves to a specific conclusion about a smaller category of ideas or
things" (Jones, 163). Using deductive reasoning I can provide logical arguments on why it's beneficial to major in cybersecurity. Informing my readers with two or three premises and moving to specific conclusions to support my writing will help my readers understand that cybersecurity is the way to go if you're undecided on your major.

For example, one premise is the demand for cybersecurity professionals is high and continuous to grow. The increasing reliance on technology in all aspects of life has led to a spike in cyber threats. Businesses and organizations across all industries are in need of skilled cybersecurity experts to protect their digital assets. Anther premise includes cybersecurity offers a wide range of career paths and specifications. Cybersecurity encompasses various fields like network security, cloud security, and digital forensics. This allows for diverse career options and opportunities to pursue specific interests in the field.

  1. Great post Tyler! By highlighting the continuous growth in demand due to increased digital reliance and cyber threats, you make a great argument that cybersecurity is a future-proof field with solid job security. The second premise about cybersecurity’s wide range of career paths further strengthens your argument. The subfields like network security, cloud security, and digital forensics show flexibility and adaptability within the field, catering to many interests and allowing individuals to specialize as they advance. This approach, using deductive reasoning to progress from general industry trends to specific career benefits, guides readers toward understanding cybersecurity as a beneficial major that lines up with both job stability and personal interest. If you expand this with specific examples, like recent statistics on cybersecurity job growth or average salaries in these subfields, it will make your argument even more persuasive and relatable to students considering their options.
